I was introduced to Matt Woods the summer before my junior year at Malone.  I was dealing with a
stress fracture in my foot and had recently experienced my first successful year as a sophomore
earning all American honors.  Matt joined our program in the fall of my junior year and took me
under his wing.  Since then, Matt and I have had an almost father/son relationship which has carried
over to how well my training has gone.  I trust fully in everything he has given me and he trusts in me
to do that work consistently whether it is hitting a certain number of miles for the week, strides,
running drills, plyometrics or lifting.  I know he can take me to my utmost potential and that his
training philosophy is just as good or better than any elite coach out there.

Furthermore, I have traveled to many races and training sites with Matt and I know that he wants to
be there for support and advice at all times.  I admire Matt’s determination to provide the most ideal
training regiment for all the athletes he encounters and I truly feel that I have never met anyone so
unselfish.  He is constantly looking out for what he believes to be the best thing for others.  After
every workout, I call Matt almost immediately to tell him how it went and to receive feedback on our
future goals based on how well my session was.  Because of this constant interest and dedication to
my running, Matt has taken me to another level and we are looking even higher.  The ultimate goal
is the Olympic Trials in 2012, although we have many other goals to breach leading up to that point,
we are well on our way.

My credentials include 2007 All-Ohio champion, two time All-Ohio runner of the year, 7 time NAIA all-
American, 5 time national runner-up in both cross and track and 2007 NAIA Cross Country Team
National Champion.  I have run 4:11 for the mile, 8:18 for 3000 meters, 14:20 for 5000 meters, 29:40
for 10,000 meters, 50:24 for 10 miles, 1:07:39 for half marathon and 24:24 for 8k cross country.

Matt Woods has a vast amount of knowledge
regarding training and physiology. He helps write
Malone's training plans and does Max VO2 and
Lactate profile testing for our athletes. These allow us
to train at the exact optimal speed to increase our
fitness. He has had a significant impact on our team's
performances, helping us win back to back NAIA
national championships and All-Ohio victories.

Matt Woods added an invaluable asset to my training arsenal--smart, safe, and effective training
principles. Without Matt I would have not made the jumps I have made from the 10k to the Marathon
in the last few years.  Many can coach, but few can tailor training plans grounded in both science and
experience like Matt. I highly recommend Matt if your goals are to steadily improve over the long term.

I have known Matt Woods for over twenty years. We have been competitors, teammates and great
friends. Matt through the years, has gained much needed knowledge through his own training, reading, and
coaching athletes at different levels. His success is a product of hard work, dedication and a love for the sport.

Since I have entered the Masters ranks Matt has helped me tremendously. He has helped me to be more
disciplined in my training approach and has helped me keep my passion for the sport. Matt's training is a
systematical approach to running and has kept me injury free. You can't find a better coach out there that has his
coaching credentials and love of the sport. I highly recommend Matt to any distance athlete that wants to improve
and have a positive experience with running.

I met Matt Woods a few years ago while living in
Akron. I had been training and racing for about
6 or 7 years after a long layoff from running. I
relied on my old training methods from high
school and college and my times at various
distances improved for a while. However, they
soon leveled out and I had a hard time reaching
new goals.

I went to Matt and was tested to determine my
VO2 max and lactate profile. This information
and my recent racing times provided Matt the
data to setup a training program for me. Initially,
some of the workouts in the program seemed
extremely difficult, however, Matt's approach
systematically builds your abilities, so that
you're capable of doing the workouts when they
are scheduled. At the end of the program I had
both the confidence and the physical ability to
achieve my goals. With Matt's help I've been
able to PR in the half marathon and 25K
distances and consistently run fast times over
the last few years. His scientific approach to training and racing has helped me stay healthy and get to the starting line prepared to run my best. I
would highly recommend runners at any level to work with Matt if you want to give yourself the best opportunity to achieve your goals.

Matt Woods seems to have an innate ability to sense the needs and demands of his athletes. He doesn’t rush their training to accrue
short term benefits, but instead fosters competitive longevity.  He has achieved a wonderful balance of coaching sensibility while still
holding true to proven physiological principles.
Both as my colleague and my coach, Matt serves as an integral part of my academic and athletic careers.  I admire his incessant drive to
refine his skills and knowledge base, both anecdotally and academically.  He serves as an inspiration to me as I strive to be specialist in a
comparative field of study.  Matt is a true lover of knowledge and his wisdom stands as solid footing for aspiring athletes.

Under Matt’s guidance, Leo Kormanik II ran personal records in the mile (4:12), 3000m (8:13), 5000m (14:12), 10,000m (29:45) and 5
miles (23:33).  It is also important to note that Matt coached Leo to his debut marathon of 2:22:29 and a 15th place finish at USATF Club
Cross Country Championship in 2007.

Leo is still coached by Matt long distance while he attends Life University in Marietta, GA.  He is currently working to become a Doctor of
Chiropractic.
